Before you attend an escape room, make sure you check their FAQ or with them directly to see what procedures and rules they have.
An escape room game is a real-time adventure game that takes place in one of our themed game rooms. It’s a relatively new game that originated in Japan around 2007 and made its way to the US by 2013. If you are new to escape rooms then this is the article for you. In case you’re still wondering what is an escape room experience, here are some basics. Before you start, you need to form a team (usually it’s between 2 and 5 people, depending on the situation). Then, choose an adventure. The games are divided into themed adventures, and each room is designed according to the theme you choose.
Expect to see prison cells, nuclear power plants, theatres, dig sites, pirate ships, and any more. No matter which room you choose, the goal will be the same – get out of the room in 60 minutes or less. Don’t worry, you can leave the room at any time if you wish to ignore the rules, it’s just a game after all.
If there is one thing we are looking for nowadays is an adventure. Escape games are the new entertainment concept everyone wants to try: the feeling of the adrenaline rush whenever we do a certain thing. Escape room is a booming game that not only challenges our minds but also how fast we can react in unexpected situations. It is a real-life team game: locked in a room with a theme, you have to follow a series of tracks and puzzles in order to escape in the allotted time.
For most people, this is definitely a scary and nightmarish scenario. But they actually pay to be put into one of these rooms with unpleasant ambiance. Once you are in, all five of your senses become sharper and super sensitive. Your sense of awareness becomes very keen and you are more attuned to the various sights and sounds that surround you.
As you begin to absorb this information, your brain will begin to take notes of every detail of your environment in rapid-fire fashion. As you are scrambling around and searching for clues, your instinctive ‘fight or flight’ response kicks in, and a huge dose of adrenaline gets pumped into your bloodstream.
Some escape rooms are ‘horror’ themed, such as escaping a zombie apocalypse or solving the mystery of a haunted house. Even still, they’re designed to be fun, not genuinely terrifying. You’ll get a good spook, but never be actually afraid for your safety!
Is horror not your style? Don’t worry. These games are clearly defined as “horror” in their description – both at the business itself and online. You’ll never be surprised, and can always choose a non-horror theme.
